Sexist hate speech through social networks as a reaction to the anthem "A rapist on your way"

Abstract

Social networks have become a global means of communication, however, the misuse that they are sometimes given is evident, for example, in sites of sexist hate reproduction. Through parodies, memes, images and violent comments, what was said is palpable.
This research is based on a case study, based on the dissemination of the anthem-performance "A rapist on your way" that created countless audiovisual material, images, memes, among others, with a burlesque tinge that, in turn, it was shared and commented on. The comments are macho, sexist and misogynistic in reaction to the feminist anthem.
In this context, in order to know the discursive characteristics and the functioning of the responses to the audiovisual products created from the diffusion of the anthem, “A rapist on your way” in the Ecuadorian context, the comments towards certain products are analyzed audiovisuals collected from social networks (Facebook, Instagram and YouTube) in order to identify the type of speech emitted by users. Through observation and discourse analysis, it was obtained as a result that most of the comments are macho and sexist. These come mostly from men. Likewise, the social networks in which most of the collected materials were found were Facebook, followed by Twitter, YouTube and Instagram. Finally, the conclusions are shown based on the objectives set.
