Trauma victims in the brazilian documentary

Abstract

In 1988, Brian Winston presented a discussion about the tradition of the victim in his documentary, analyzing the English production of 1930 and direct cinema of 1960s to assert that filmmakers belonging to these cinema schools thought of their characters as victims only. This paper discusses this further focusing on contemporary documentaries about traumatic experiences. The results suggest the hypothesis that there are two conditions to victimization when the victim is not considered a mere outcast; and that victimization is produced by State policies.
